An observational song about famous or infamous place in the center of Bristol “The Bear Pit”, formerly known as St. James Barton Roundabout Culturally, St. James Barton Roundabout and Stokes Croft have similar roots. Known colloquially as “The Bear Pit” because of its fearsome reputation, this site has been a no man’s land since its creation”.

Down in the circus at the centre of town
A man is sits resting and he’s wearing a frown
The sun may be shining but lifes getting him down
As people like me walk by

A hag with a bag sits just out reach
As he sits there rolling a ciggarette
Do you smoke he asks, “somestimes” she sez
But neither look up or smile

And meanwhile someone writes graffiti on the graffiti
It’s a jungle down there
He sits there is clothes all faded and brown
His teeth are chipped and his eyes face down
Ambition reduced to the passage of time
I’m sure thats not what he wanted

The birds go to roost as the sun goes down
The cold creeps in as the shadows grow long
It’s no place to be if you can’t keep ward
What did they do for life to be so unkind?

And meanwhile the children scrawle graffiti on the graffiti

There is nothing much to do, but hey you can always walk on through, there’s always Turbo Island!
